(OTTAWA) Singer The Weeknd is the latest celebrity to buy the Ottawa Senators, according to reports by the Ottawa Sun newspaper.
The native Torontonian, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, reportedly agreed to join a group led by Toronto billionaires Jeffrey and Michael Kimel, according to Sun reporter Bruce Garrioch.
The Weeknd, which has owned shares in esports company OverActive Media since 2019, has yet to publicly confirm its interest in buying the Senators.
The rumors come a week after legendary American rapper Snoop Dogg confirmed that he had joined a group seeking to buy the Senators, which would be led by Los Angeles businessman Neko Sparks.
Meanwhile, Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds, who is co-owner of Welsh soccer club Wrexham AFC, is also reportedly interested in acquiring the Senators. The Vancouverite would be associated with the Remington group, which specializes in the development of real estate projects.
