Tiffany Henyard, the Democratic mayor of Dolton, Illinois, has announced that she will be running for re-election despite facing scandals during her first term in office. Henyard made the announcement on Facebook, declaring her intention to seek a second term as mayor of the south suburb of Chicago.
Henyard, who has been nicknamed “the worst mayor in America” by residents, has faced criticism for her handling of the town’s finances. Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot even conducted an investigation into Henyard’s spending habits, revealing that the town’s general fund balance had dropped from $5.61 million to a deficit of $3.65 million under Henyard’s leadership.
The embattled mayor was also found to have made questionable purchases using the village credit card, including extravagant parties that cost taxpayers thousands of dollars. Despite these controversies, Henyard remains confident in her leadership and has announced plans for an official campaign announcement event later this month.
In addition to facing scrutiny over her financial management, Henyard is currently involved in a legal dispute with several village trustees, the Dolton Park District, the village clerk, and the village administrator. The lawsuit stems from a controversial village board meeting that Henyard alleges violated procedures.
Despite the challenges she has faced during her first term, Henyard is determined to seek re-election and continue serving as mayor of Dolton. It remains to be seen how voters will respond to her announcement and whether she will be able to overcome the scandals that have marred her time in office.
