(San Francisco) The social network TikTok said Tuesday that a cyberattack had affected important profiles on the platform, including that of the American media CNN.
The number of affected accounts is “very small” and the company has strengthened its defenses to thwart the method used by the hackers, a spokesperson said.
“We have taken steps to stop this attack and prevent this from happening again in the future,” he told AFP, adding that TikTok was working directly with the owners of the affected accounts to “restore security. ‘access, if necessary’.
It was CNN which alerted the social network to the attack which targeted the accounts of several major brands and celebrities, while the information site Semafor was the first to report last week that the account of the American media had been compromised, forcing him to suspend his presence on TikTok for several days.
