The Tennessee Titans made a strong move to improve their defense by signing veteran safety Jamal Adams to a one-year deal for the 2024 season. This news was first reported by ESPN and later confirmed by the Titans themselves.
Jamal Adams previously played for the Seattle Seahawks for four seasons before being released on March 5. Since then, he has been a free agent waiting for the right opportunity. With players like Amani Hooker and Elijah Molden already on the Titans’ roster at safety, Adams will have to compete for a starting position during training camp.
Adams, a seven-year veteran, was once the highest-paid safety in the league after signing a lucrative extension with the Seahawks in 2020. The New York Jets traded him to Seattle in exchange for two first-round picks, as he was coming off back-to-back All-Pro seasons with the Jets.
Dennard Wilson, who was Adams’ defensive backs coach during his time with the Jets, is now on the coaching staff of the Tennessee Titans. Adams had a standout season in 2020 with the Seahawks, recording a career-high 9.5 sacks, earning a second-team All-Pro selection, and making another Pro Bowl appearance.
However, Adams’ performance has declined in recent years due to injuries. He suffered a torn quadriceps tendon in his left leg during the 2022 season opener, causing him to miss the remainder of the season. In 2023, he missed the first three games while rehabbing and didn’t quite return to form, leading the Seahawks to sideline him in December.
Despite facing challenges and even contemplating retirement at one point, Adams now has the opportunity to showcase his elite talent with the Titans.
