(TORONTO) The Toronto Blue Jays placed receiver Alejandro Kirk on the 10-day disabled list on Monday.
Kirk suffered a laceration to his left hand when he was hit by a pitch in the second inning of an 11-7 loss to the Texas Rangers on Sunday.
Kirk has hit three long drives and has driven in 21 points in 59 games this season.
The Blue Jays took advantage of the personnel move to recall catcher Tyler Heineman and right-hander Trent Thornton from their AAA-level Buffalo farm.
Both players will be part of the Toronto squad for Monday night’s game in Miami against the Marlins.
Right-hander Bowden Francis has been demoted to the AAA level with the Bisons.
