John Pogorek, a dedicated military man, had a long and distinguished career in the Air Force and the National Guard. Graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1989, he joined the New Hampshire Air National Guard in 1999. He held various leadership positions within the organization, including commanding the 157th Air Refueling Wing at Pease Air National Guard Base.
Pogorek was described as an exemplary wingman, mentor, and friend by New Hampshire Adjutant Gen. David Mikolaities. His sudden and tragic death has deeply affected those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed by all.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Pogorek, identified as 81-year-old Paul Clement, fled the scene of the accident. It remains unclear if Clement will face any charges in connection with the hit-and-run incident. Thankfully, a juvenile passenger inside Pogorek’s truck at the time of the crash was unharmed.
