Two individuals tragically lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries in a shooting incident that took place during a Juneteenth Celebration in Round Rock, Texas. The Round Rock Police Chief, Allen Banks, revealed that the shooting occurred around 10:50 p.m., and law enforcement officials are currently on the lookout for suspects. The exact number of shooters involved remains unclear at this time.
According to reports from emergency response officials, at least six individuals were rushed to hospitals with injuries described as “potentially serious.” The Austin-Travis County EMS disclosed that among the injured were four adults and two children who were taken to local trauma centers for treatment.
Chief Banks explained that the violence erupted when two groups engaged in a confrontation near the vendor area at the Round Rock Juneteenth Festival held at Old Settler’s Park. It was during this altercation that gunfire erupted, resulting in the tragic outcome. Responding quickly to the scene, police officers and firefighters provided immediate medical assistance to the wounded, including applying tourniquets and performing CPR.
Despite the swift response from emergency personnel, the authorities have refrained from releasing a description of the suspect involved in the shooting. Chief Banks cited the existence of multiple conflicting descriptions of the suspect, as well as differing accounts of the sequence of events that transpired during the incident.
In light of the tragic events, activities that were originally scheduled to take place at the park on Sunday morning have been canceled. However, Chief Banks assured the public that the park would be reopened in the afternoon to allow for Father’s Day celebrations to proceed as planned. The community remains in shock and mourning following the senseless violence that marred what was meant to be a day of celebration and remembrance.
