CNN data reporter Harry Enten was shocked to discover that former President Trump is gaining significant support from Black voters, according to recent polling. Data from a combination of network polls showed a decrease in interest in President Biden among Black voters, dropping from 86% in 2020 to 70% in 2024. On the other hand, Trump has managed to increase his support from Black voters, jumping from 7% in 2020 to 21% in 2024.

Enten expressed his surprise at these findings, stating that he has never seen anything like this before. He noted that while Biden’s support among Black voters over 50 has slightly declined, the support from Black voters under 50 has drastically decreased from 80 points in 2020 to just 37 points in 2024.

The increase in Black voter support for Trump has raised concerns for Biden’s re-election campaign, with Enten calling it a “huge alarm.” If Trump continues to gain support from Black voters at this rate, it could potentially secure him 291 Electoral College votes in 2024, according to Enten’s analysis.

Recent polls have also indicated a significant drop in support for Biden among Black voters in key states like Michigan and Pennsylvania. In Michigan, Trump’s support among Black voters has increased to 15%, while Biden’s support has fallen to 54%. Similarly, in Pennsylvania, Trump now has 11% support from Black voters, up from 9% in the 2020 election.

Despite these shifts in support, the latest Fox News poll shows Biden receiving 72% support among Black voters nationally, up from 66% in February but down from 79% before the 2020 election. Trump, on the other hand, holds a slight lead over Biden among all voters.

These developments in Black voter support highlight a significant change in the political landscape and could have implications for the upcoming 2024 election. Enten’s analysis underscores the need for both parties to pay attention to the shifting dynamics among Black voters and adapt their strategies accordingly to secure their support.
