Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Ryan gained attention for his unique strategy to combat the heat during a recent game against the Chicago White Sox. While not on the mound, Ryan was in the dugout supporting his teammates as they faced off against the Houston Astros. As the temperatures soared into the mid-80s, Ryan was seen using baby powder down the pants of his Twins’ uniform to try and stay cool.
It is unclear whether the baby powder Ryan used was talcum-free, but the gesture did not go unnoticed. The Bally Sports North cameras captured Twins shortstop Carlos Correa also taking advantage of the powdery substance as he hit a home run in the seventh inning, contributing to the team’s third consecutive win.
The Twins have been performing well this season, with Monday’s victory marking their 52nd win of the year. Currently, they hold the fourth-best record in the American League. On the other hand, the White Sox have been struggling, only managing to secure 26 wins and holding the worst record in MLB.
In a turn of events, Tuesday’s scheduled game between the Twins and White Sox had to be postponed due to inclement weather. The matchup has been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader set to take place on July 10.
