A fire ravaged the third floor of a condo building on Nuns’ Island, without causing any injuries, Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was reported around 4:16 p.m., according to Marie-Ève ​​Beausoleil, section head of the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SIM). Smoke then emerged from the roof of a building with six condo units, located on rue de la Noue, near chemin Marie le Ber. A Level 3 alert was declared, and 90 firefighters attended the scene, where all units were evacuated.

The two units on the third floor of the building were burned and declared total losses, according to Marie-Ève ​​Beausoleil. The other four were damaged by water, but will be able to be re-entered by residents.

No residents of the building were injured in the incident, according to the SIM. However, one firefighter suffered heat stroke during the intervention, but refused to be transported to hospital. The causes of the fire are currently unknown.

The residents of three units, nine adults and one child, were relocated by the Red Cross, while three residents of another unit found refuge with a member of their family, according to Marie-Ève ​​Beausoleil. The residents of the other two units were absent from their homes.
