The Champions League final in London was accompanied by a large-scale police operation, which resulted in several arrests.

On June 1st, there was a massive police operation in London with over 2,000 officers. As the BBC reports, the Metropolitan Police (Met) arrested a total of 53 people in connection with the football final, which Real Madrid won 2-0 against Borussia Dortmund. Mainly due to attempts to get into the stadium without valid tickets.

According to a police spokesman, most attempts to gain unauthorized entry to Wembley Stadium were unsuccessful. Despite this, a total of five people were arrested for entering the pitch, which led to a brief interruption of the game.

At the same time, a demonstration organized by right-wing extremist activist Tommy Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley Lennon, took place in central London, culminating in the afternoon near Parliament Square. On X, formerly Twitter, the Met Police wrote that they had identified several people among the participants who were linked to hooligan groups. Two people were arrested at the demonstration, including one for drunkenness and assaulting an emergency worker.

According to Metro, Robinson presented a documentary called “Lawfare” during the march, which claims that Sir Mark Rowley, the head of the Met Police, runs a “two-tier policing system” that favors Muslims and Palestine supporters over white Britons. A banner reading “This is London not Londistan” was also seen during the event.

At another demonstration in central London, nine people were arrested due to a road blockade. The organisation “Youth Demand” protested against the ongoing war in Gaza with direct actions.
