On the opening day of the track and field events at the Paris Olympics, the USA 4x400m mixed relay team made history by setting a new world record. The team consisting of Vernon Norwood, Shamier Little, Bryce Deadmon, and Kaylyn Brown clocked in at 3:07.41, beating the previous record by 1.38 seconds.
Norwood and Deadmon ran the first and third legs, while Little and Brown took on the second and anchor legs. The team dominated their heat, finishing nearly three seconds ahead of the second-place team. This impressive performance solidifies their place in the record books.
All four runners have connections to SEC schools, with Little and Deadmon representing Texas A&M, Norwood an LSU alum, and Brown, the youngest member at just 19 years old, currently attending Arkansas. Deadmon was part of the gold medal-winning men’s 4x400m relay team in Tokyo, while Norwood also competed at the previous Olympics.
The mixed relay team’s success at the Tokyo Olympics earned them a bronze medal in 2021. This time around, they are aiming for gold with their record-breaking performance in the first heat of the event.
The finals of the mixed 4x400m relay will take place on Saturday afternoon, giving the team a chance to further showcase their talent and potentially break more records. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting event.
