(Rome) American actress Sigourney Weaver, famous in particular for her role in the Alien saga, will receive an honorary Golden Lion for her entire career at the 81st Venice Film Festival, organizers announced on Friday.

“An actress of Sigourney Weaver’s caliber has few rivals,” greeted the festival’s artistic director, Alberto Barbera, in a press release.

Sigourney Weaver is honored for building bridges “between the most sophisticated arthouse cinema and films that engage with audiences in a frank and original way, while remaining true to herself,” she said. -he adds.

Weaver will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival, which runs from August 28 to September 7. She said she would “proudly accept this award as a tribute to all those who helped bring these films to life.”

The 74-year-old actress, who has already won two Golden Globes and a Grammy Award, rose to fame as Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi film Alien.

She then appeared in James Cameron’s Alien in 1986 – which earned her her first Oscar nomination – and then two more films in the franchise, as well as the blockbusters Avatar and Ghostbusters.
