Volkswagen announced last week that the marketing schedule for its ID.7 electric sedan will be pushed back in both Canada and the United States.

The short statement does not specify what the new target date is and bases this decision on “changing market dynamics.” According to an analysis by Kelley Blue Book, 7.3% fewer electric vehicles were sold on the American market in the first quarter of 2024 than in the last quarter of 2023. In Canada, the latest data provided by Statistics Canada, dating from the fourth quarter of 2023, report continued demand at 12% market share for electric and plug-in vehicles, down very slightly by 0.3% compared to the previous quarter.

Already marketed in Europe since 2023, the ID.7 was due to be introduced this year in the country. Rear-wheel drive (282 hp) and all-wheel drive (335 hp) versions were in the pipeline. Its sedan body, less popular than SUVs, may partly explain Volkswagen’s reluctance to launch the model. The German brand also specifies that the marketing of the ID. Buzz, an electric minivan, is nevertheless still planned for the end of 2024.
