(Kyiv) The situation on the Ukrainian front is “tense” around Ivanivske, a locality neighboring Chassiv Iar, a town on the Eastern front that both camps consider strategic, said the Kyiv army.

Russia is targeting this city with the aim of making a breakthrough in Donbass towards Kramatorsk, the main city still under Ukrainian control in the region.

“Two combat situations are underway near Ivanivske. The situation is tense,” the Ukrainian General Staff explained in a statement on social media.

Soldiers in the area confirm very difficult clashes, with Ukraine lacking men and ammunition.

“We need long-range things, more modern artillery, more FPV drones, more drones of all kinds. It’s coming, but not in the necessary quantities,” Rouslan, press officer of the 41st brigade, told AFP on Tuesday.

“The situation is difficult, very difficult,” he added.

Russia is also increasing its attacks further south, in the Pokrovsk sector. One person was killed in this area in a bombing.

Further north, in the Kharkiv region, evacuations are being prepared.

“We are currently preparing an evacuation plan for the direction of Zolochiv”, a locality northwest of the city of Kharkiv, explained Oleg Synegoubov, governor of the region, referring to a “mandatory evacuation of families with children”.

Russian forces launched a major ground assault in the area on May 10, making their largest territorial gains in 18 months.  Their advance seems to have been slowed, but the Ukrainian army remains struggling against a better equipped and more numerous adversary.

In the Kherson region, a resident died after a “mortar” shelling, according to a statement from the regional prosecutor’s office.

And in the occupied part of this same region, Vladimir Saldo, the governor appointed by Moscow, declared that “a 78-year-old woman was killed by a shell.”
