A woman spends three days in a hotel in Wales, runs up a bill of almost €950 and disappears without paying.
A woman booked a three-day stay in a hotel in Llanelli, Wales, under a company name. She spent her evenings in the hotel restaurant and drank drinks at the bar, the Mirror reported. The total bill came to £700 (€950).
But then she left the hotel without paying the bill. The hotel tried in vain to contact the woman. “It is unlikely that we will get the money back,” the manager told the “Mirror”. It is particularly painful for a family-run hotel like his to have to accept such a loss.
The manager has informed the police. “Police received a call on Monday afternoon, June 17, that a woman had stayed at a hotel in Llanelli and had left without paying,” a police spokesman told the Mirror. Enquiries are being made to identify the woman.
In Germany, diners, i.e. leaving a restaurant or bar without paying, are considered fraud and can be prosecuted. According to Section 263 of the Criminal Code (StGB), fraud can be punished with a prison sentence of up to five years or a fine. In less serious cases of diners, the punishment can be less severe.
