(LONDON) Canada’s Carol Zhao earned her ticket to the main draw at Wimbledon after beating American CoCo Vanderweghe 7-6 (4), 6-4 in the third round of qualifying on Thursday.
Zhao will appear in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his career.
The 28-year-old from Richmond Hill, Ont., slammed 11 aces and fielded 82% of her first serves, netting 84% of the points.
Zhao was broken on seven occasions, and her serve was not taken away by the 31-year-old Vanderweghe.
Zhao, ranked 166th in the world, will join Bianca Andreescu, Leylah Annie Fernandez and Rebecca Marino in the women’s main draw. The tournament will get under way on Monday.
