(London) Quebecer Eugenie Bouchard was eliminated in the first round of qualifying for the Wimbledon tournament on Tuesday. She lost 6-4, 7-5 to Belgium’s Greet Minnen.
Bouchard already reached the final of the Wimbledon tournament in 2014, but lost to Petra Kvitova.
Canadian Carol Zhao beat Britain’s Emily Appleton 4-6, 7-6, 6-4.
Zhao, ranked 166th in the world, will now face Arantxa Rus in the next round. The Dutchwoman is the second seed in the qualifying draw and she just defeated Daria Snigur.
Rus, who is ranked 85th in the world, has already reached the third round at Wimbledon in 2012.
Toronto’s Katherine Sebov, the last Canadian to make the women’s qualifier, will face Czech Brenda Fruhvirtova on Wednesday. On the men’s side, Montrealer Gabriel Diallo will face Italian Matteo Gigante.
