(London) Canadian Marina Stakusic was quick in the first round of qualifying for the Wimbledon tournament on Tuesday after crushing Frenchwoman Carole Monnet 6-0, 6-1.
Stakusic, 164th in the world, was never worried by her rival, 204th, en route to victory on court no. 8 at the All England Club.
The Ontarian dominated virtually every statistical category during this duel, even converting five of her 10 break points at the expense of Monnet. On the other hand, the representative of the maple leaf saved the only break point she offered him.
In the second round of qualifying, Stakusic will face Frenchwoman Chloé Paquet, the 116th-ranked player in the world.
In addition, Canadians Carol Zhao and Rebecca Marino will play their first round qualifying match at Wimbledon later today.
Then, in Eastbourne, Quebecer Leylah Annie Fernandez and her Japanese playing partner Ena Shihabara will meet in the round of 16 of the women’s doubles with German Laura Siegemund and Czech Barbora Krejcikova.
