(Winnipeg) The Winnipeg Jets signed forward Gabriel Vilardi to a two-year contract worth $6.875 million on Wednesday, avoiding the salary arbitration process.
Vilardi’s hearing was scheduled for July 28, after the two sides were unable to agree by the July 6 deadline to do so.
The Jets acquired Vilardi, a 23-year-old Ontarian, from the Los Angeles Kings last month in return for, among other things, Quebecer Pierre-Luc Dubois.
Vilardi scored 41 goals and had 37 assists in 152 games with the Kings, who selected him 11th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft.
He set career highs with 23 goals and 41 points in 63 games last season.
