World Pool Championship: Francisco Sanchez Ruiz Set to Defend Title in Saudi Arabia
Defending champion and World Nineball Tour No 1 Francisco Sanchez Ruiz is gearing up to defend his World Pool Championship title in Saudi Arabia, with the tournament set to be broadcast live on Sky Sports this week. The competition will see Sanchez Ruiz face off against Waleed Albalkhi, while former 2017 World Pool Champion Carlo Biado takes on Dutch cueist Marco Teutscher. Additionally, five-time USA Open champion Shane Van Boening will go up against home favorite Fahad Alharbi.
Other notable players in the championship include UK Open defending champion Robbie Capito, rising Estonian talent Karl Gnadeberg, two-time World Pool champion Albin Ouschan, and Lithuanian Pijus Labutis who will face off against Pia Filler, the sole female player in the tournament.
The World Pool Championship features a field size of 128 players from over 40 different nationalities, competing at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal City Sports Hall. The tournament includes the Top 100 World Nineball Tour professional pool players as well as wildcard players from Saudi Arabia and around the world.
The championship is scheduled to take place from 3-8 June, with matches running from 7pm to 11:30pm on the first day, 1pm to 11:30pm on days 2-4, and 12pm to 11:30pm on days 5-6.
