Mexico’s Aeromexico and U.S. Delta Air Lines Named Best Airlines for On-Time Arrivals

Recently, a comprehensive study conducted by aviation analytics firm Cirium has revealed that Aeromexico, Mexico’s largest airline, and Delta Air Lines in the U.S. have come out on top as the best airlines for on-time arrivals in the world.
Cirium’s Annual Report Highlights Top Performers
Cirium’s annual report, which analyzed millions of flights, airports, and airlines for operational efficiency and rates of on-time arrivals and departures, has recognized Aeromexico as the global leader in timeliness. With over 86% of flights arriving on time and 87% departing on time, Aeromexico has set a high standard for punctuality in the industry.
Among domestic U.S. carriers, Delta Air Lines claimed the top spot for on-time arrivals, with an impressive 83% of flights arriving on schedule. The report also named Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh King Khalid International Airport as the most on-time hub of the year.
Challenges and Resilience in the Aviation Industry
Despite facing challenges such as cybersecurity disruptions and weather anomalies, the aviation industry has shown remarkable resilience and adaptability in 2024. Cirium’s Chief Executive, Jeremy Bowen, commended airlines and airports for their commitment to operational excellence amidst adversity.
While North American airlines struggled with a shortage of air-traffic controllers, resulting in flight schedule cuts, U.S. carriers still managed to improve their overall on-time arrival rate to 76% in 2024, up from 74% in the previous year. American, Southwest, and Spirit Airlines were also recognized for their punctuality among North American carriers.

However, not all airlines have had smooth sailing when it comes to timeliness. JetBlue Airways, despite ranking seventh among U.S. airlines for on-time arrivals, recently faced a $2 million fine from the Department of Transportation for chronically delayed flights and unrealistic scheduling. This enforcement action highlights the importance of accountability and transparency in the industry.
The Department of Transportation has launched investigations into other airlines with misleading schedules that do not reflect realistic departure and arrival times. Airlines like Frontier, Air Canada, and WestJet have struggled with lower on-time arrival rates compared to their counterparts, raising concerns about customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
