Bridgerton Star Nicola Coughlan Rules Out Derry Girls Reunion
Irish actor Nicola Coughlan, best known for her roles in Bridgerton and Derry Girls, has stated that there will be no Derry Girls reunion in the near future. Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington in the hit Netflix series Bridgerton, made these remarks at the Dublin premiere of the third season.
Describing Derry Girls as a “perfect package” with its three series, Coughlan expressed her reluctance to revisit the show and potentially taint its legacy. Despite this, she expressed a desire to collaborate with her former co-stars on other projects in the future.
At the premiere event, Coughlan revealed mixed feelings about the upcoming episodes of Bridgerton, warning her family that certain scenes might be uncomfortable to watch. Her co-star Luke Newton, who plays her love interest Colin, also made an appearance at the event, showcasing Irish designer Simone Roche’s creations.
The third season of Bridgerton, based on Julia Quinn’s novel ‘Romancing Mr Bridgerton,’ has garnered immense popularity since its release, with the first four episodes amassing 82 million views. The second half of the season is set to premiere globally on Netflix on June 13.
Nicola Coughlan rose to fame with her role as Clare Devlin in the award-winning Channel 4 series Derry Girls, set against the backdrop of the Northern Ireland Troubles in the 1990s. Her portrayal of Penelope Featherington in Bridgerton has further solidified her status as a versatile actor in both television and film.
Having recently appeared in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and the historical comedy Seize Them!, Coughlan continues to captivate audiences with her diverse roles. Despite ruling out a Derry Girls reunion, fans can look forward to her future projects and collaborations with her talented co-stars.
