Sally Jo Iddings Waters, a beloved member of the Marietta community, passed away on November 2, 2024, at the age of 85 after a brief illness. She was born in St. Clairsville, OH, on August 4, 1939, to Howard and Audrey Iddings and grew up on the Iddings Farm Dairy. Sally attended St. Clairsville High School and later graduated from Malone College in 1965 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
Throughout her life, Sally was dedicated to education and spent over 20 years as a substitute teacher in the Marietta City School District and surrounding areas. She married Raymond Earl Waters in 1959 and together they raised four children on the family farm in Marietta.
Sally was a faithful member of the Marietta First Church of the Nazarene for 50 years, where she shared her love for music by singing in the church choir. Her strong faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she devoted time each day to reading the Bible, praying, and singing worship songs. Sally and her husband were active members of Gideons International, serving the organization’s mission of spreading the Gospel for many years.
In addition to her passion for music and faith, Sally enjoyed antiques, gardening, needle arts, and reading Amish novels. She also ran a business called Ye Olde Cross Stitch Cupboard for seven years with her mother and sister. A dedicated Ohio State Buckeyes fan, Sally could often be found cheering on her team during game days.
Sally is survived by her four children, 14 grandchildren, their spouses/partners, and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, and brother-in-law. The family will receive friends at the Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel on November 7th, with funeral services taking place on November 8th.
Sally’s impact on her community and loved ones will always be remembered, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of faith, love, and dedication to family and service will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
