Former Champion Carlo Biado Knocked Out of World Pool Championship
Carlo Biado, the former World Pool Champion, faced a shocking elimination in the early stages of the World Pool Championship held at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal City Sports Hall in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 3-8 June. In partnership with the Saudi Arabian Billiard & Snooker Federation (SABSF) and the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Sport, the event will be broadcasted by leading global broadcasters such as Sky Sports, SSC, Shahid VIP Sports, MENA, and DAZN.
The 2017 World Pool Champion Carlo Biado suffered defeat against the Spanish Open champion Dang Jin Hu, who secured a 9-5 win with an exceptional golden break, knocking out the accomplished Pinoy. Another former champion, two-time World Pool Champion Thorsten Hohmann, also exited the tournament after consecutive losses against Kledio Kaçi and James Georgiadis.
On a positive note, Shane Van Boening showcased a masterclass performance against Saudi Arabian cueist Fahad Alharbi, finishing the match with an 8-rack charge. UK Open champion Robbie Capito also advanced to the winners’ qualification after a remarkable performance against Karl Gnadeberg.
The second day of the championship witnessed struggles from two-time champion Albin Ouschan and 2019 champion Fedor Gorst. Ouschan faced a defeat in the opening round against Fu Che Wei but bounced back with a 9-2 victory against Khalid Al Otabibi in the following round. Gorst, on the other hand, experienced nerve-wracking moments, losing 3-9 to Mustafa Alnar in the first round but managing to secure a win against Luong Duc Thien in the losers’ qualification.
