General Election TV Debates: BBC Reveals Line-Up for Highly Anticipated Shows

BBC has officially announced the schedule for the upcoming general election TV debates, set to kick off next week with a bang. The debate series will feature some of the biggest political figures in the UK, including a crucial face-off between Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer just before the polling day.

The televised debates will commence on Friday, 7 June, with a seven-party debate moderated by Mishal Husain. This will be followed by a two-hour Question Time programme on 20 June, featuring leaders from the country’s four major political parties and presented by Fiona Bruce. Additionally, a head-to-head debate between the Prime Minister and Labour’s leader is scheduled for 26 June, moderated by Sophie Raworth.

Apart from these national debates, there will be dedicated debates in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales as well. The BBC has also lined up Panorama specials, where each leader of the seven major political parties will be interviewed over the next four weeks by Nick Robinson.

All of these programs will be broadcast on various BBC platforms, including BBC One, BBC News, local radio stations, and BBC iPlayer. The election day is set for 4 July, and the BBC’s debate line-up during the campaign period will be as follows:

– Seven-party debate on Friday, 7 June in London
– Question Time Leaders’ Special on Thursday, 20 June in York
– Head-to-head debate on Wednesday, 26 June in Nottingham

In addition to these, debates are also scheduled in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland on various dates. The BBC News deputy chief executive emphasized the importance of TV debates in giving voters a chance to hear directly from leaders and politicians, which is rare during the campaign trail.

While the party representatives for the BBC’s seven-party debate are yet to be announced, the event will feature questions from both the audience and the public. The participating parties include the Conservatives, Labour, the Liberal Democrats, the SNP, Plaid Cymru, the Green Party, and Reform UK.

The final debate will involve a head-to-head between Prime Minister Sunak and opposition leader Sir Keir, in front of a live studio audience. Stay tuned for more updates on the UK general election debates and the latest election news.
