Hospital Celebrates Pride Month with Rainbow Crossings: A Colorful Display of Inclusivity and Support

In honor of Pride month, North West Anglia Foundation NHS Trust (NWAFT) has added a vibrant touch to Peterborough City Hospital by unveiling two rainbow-colored zebra crossings. The initiative, funded by the North West Anglia Hospitals’ charity, aims to promote inclusivity and support for the LGBTQIA+ community within the hospital environment.

Jo Bennis, Chief Nurse at NWAFT, expressed pride in the trust’s ongoing commitment to supporting LGBTQIA+ staff, patients, and the local community. The rainbow crossings serve as a symbol of celebration, awareness, and a reminder of the trust’s dedication to inclusivity throughout the year.

The LGBTQIA+ staff network at NWAFT, established five years ago, plays a crucial role in shaping policies and advocating for the needs of LGBTQIA+ colleagues. The network regularly shares the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ staff with the executive board, fostering a culture of understanding and support within the organization.

Looking ahead, NWAFT plans to implement similar pride initiatives at its other hospital sites, including Stamford and Hinchingbrooke. By promoting visibility and acceptance through colorful displays like the rainbow crossings, the trust aims to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all staff and visitors.

As Pride month celebrations continue, the rainbow crossings at Peterborough City Hospital stand as a powerful symbol of unity and support for the LGBTQIA+ community. Through initiatives like these, NWAFT reaffirms its commitment to diversity, equality, and respect for all individuals.
