Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs is facing more legal troubles this offseason. Reports from TMZ indicate that Buggs allegedly broke into the home of his child’s mother before 5:30 a.m. and proceeded to drag her down a flight of stairs. The woman sustained scratches on her wrists and had broken “clip-on toenails” as a result of the incident.
Following the altercation, the woman promptly called the police as Buggs was leaving the premises. He was apprehended in the parking lot of a local Little Caesars. Subsequently, Buggs has been charged with domestic violence and burglary. This incident comes on the heels of two misdemeanor warrants he was already facing for second-degree cruelty to dogs.
The 27-year-old player surrendered himself late last month in Tuscaloosa in response to the animal cruelty charges. Allegations surfaced that two dogs were discovered severely malnourished, emaciated, and neglected on the back porch of a rental property where Buggs had been residing earlier in the year.
WBRC FOX6 reporter Bryan Henry tried to obtain a statement from Buggs after he posted bond following his surrender, but Buggs obstructed the camera and made it clear that he did not want to engage with the media. The Chiefs organization and Buggs’ representatives have not issued a response to the inquiries made by Fox News Digital.
Buggs, a former sixth-round pick from Alabama, initially entered the league with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019. He later joined the Chiefs as part of their practice squad, eventually contributing to the team’s journey to another Super Bowl victory.
The Chiefs have been in the spotlight for various off-field incidents this offseason, including wide receiver Rashee Rice’s involvement in a car crash in Dallas. Rice was also accused of assaulting a photographer at a nightclub in the same city, although no charges were filed.
Despite the tumultuous events surrounding the team, Buggs signed a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs on February 14th.
