Remembering LaVerne McDonald: A Life Well-Lived

LaVerne McDonald, aged 102, passed away on June 8, 2024, to join her beloved husband, Bob, in eternal rest. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 13 at St. Anne’s Church in Bismarck, with a rosary scheduled for the day before at Parkway Funeral Service. LaVerne’s journey began on June 6, 1922, in Linton, North Dakota, where she was born to Paul and Magdalena Martin. She grew up alongside seven siblings and went on to graduate from Linton Public School and Capitol Commercial College.

After working at Bell Telephone for eight years, LaVerne dedicated 22 years of her life to the North Dakota State Highway Department before retiring in 1984. She married Robert J. McDonald on April 19, 1947, and they enjoyed 51 years of marriage until Bob’s passing in 1988. Together, they shared a love for St. Mary’s Central High School sports and embarked on adventures across the United States and Europe.

A woman of faith and independence, LaVerne was known for her sense of humor and unwavering values. She cherished her early morning swims at the YMCA and her passion for reading, especially during football season. LaVerne is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, in-laws, and siblings.

In honor of LaVerne’s memory, the family requests donations to the Abused Adult Resource Center or a charity of choice in place of flowers. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the memories she created with her loved ones. Rest in peace, LaVerne McDonald.
