A fifth-grade student got expelled from a prestigious private school in Los Angeles for sending emojis of a squirt gun and rap lyrics to a friend. This incident led to a lawsuit from the boy’s parents, who filed a complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court. The Curtis School, where the expulsion took place, is known for teaching children of celebrities and costs around $28,760 per year.

The lawsuit claims that the Head of School unfairly punished the boy without sufficient evidence that his actions violated any school policies. The parents are seeking to reverse the expulsion and have their legal fees covered. The lawsuit argues that the decision to expel the student was arbitrary and unjust.

The email exchange between the two boys included lyrics from the YNW Melly rap song “Murder on My Mind.” The friend wrote, “Wake up in the morning I got,” to which the boy replied, “Murder on my mind.” Additionally, they exchanged squirt gun emojis during a math class email conversation.

The boy was called in for a meeting with the director and his teacher on September 30, where he was informed of his expulsion and immediate ban from the campus. However, the specific emails were not shown to him during the meeting, according to court documents.

The school released a statement to the media expressing their commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all students. They refrained from commenting on individual cases due to privacy concerns. Fox News Digital reached out to the Curtis School for further comments on the matter.

This incident raises questions about the school’s disciplinary policies and the interpretation of student behavior. The use of emojis and rap lyrics, while potentially controversial, may not always warrant such severe consequences. It also highlights the importance of clear communication between students, parents, and school authorities to avoid misunderstandings that could lead to legal action.
