The U.S. Department of Agriculture is currently looking into whether Boar’s Head deli meats sliced at various deli counters are connected to a listeriosis outbreak that has resulted in two fatalities. Boar’s Head Products recently declared a recall of over 200,000 pounds of deli meat, including all liverwurst items that are presently on the market.

This decision was made following the discovery of listeria bacteria in an unopened package of Boar’s Head liverwurst from a store in Maryland. In addition to the liverwurst, the company also recalled other types of deli meat produced on the same day, June 27, and on the same production line as the contaminated liverwurst.

Boar’s Head acted swiftly by recalling the affected liverwurst and decided to expand the recall to include other products as a precautionary measure. A spokeswoman for Boar’s Head mentioned that they are fully cooperating with government authorities and are conducting their own investigation into the matter.

The recalled products include multi-pound loaves of “Strassburger Brand Liverwurst MADE IN VIRGINIA” with sell-by dates ranging from July 25 to August 30. Additionally, several other deli meats meant for slicing at delis were also recalled. These products, with an Aug. 10 sell-by date, include Virginia ham, Italian Cappy Ham, Extra Hot Italian Cappy Ham, Pork & Beef Bologna, Beef Salami, Beef Bologna, Garlic Bologna, and Steakhouse Roasted Slab Bacon with a sell-by date of Aug. 15.

According to the U.S.D.A., these products were distributed to retail deli locations across the country. It is essential for consumers to check the labels of the products they have purchased to determine if they are part of the recall.

It is crucial for consumers to be aware of this recall and to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Listeria can cause serious illness, especially in vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

If you have purchased any Boar’s Head deli meats recently, especially liverwurst or the other recalled products, it is advisable to return them to the store or dispose of them properly. Additionally, if you have consumed any of these products and are experiencing symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, nausea, or diarrhea, it is essential to seek medical attention promptly.
