SpiceJet recently made an exciting announcement regarding their plans to operate seaplanes in various beautiful locations across India. After the news of a seaplane service connecting Kerala’s Munnar to Bolgatty, SpiceJet revealed their intentions to operate on 20 remote routes in locations like Lakshadweep, Shillong, Guwahati, and Hyderabad. The airline’s head, Ajay Singh, even demonstrated a seaplane flight from Vijayawada’s Prakasam Barrage to Srisailam Dam.
In 2020, SpiceJet started India’s first scheduled seaplane service from Gujarat’s Sabarmati Riverfront to the Statue of Unity in Kevadia. Unfortunately, due to pandemic restrictions, they had to pause their operations. However, Spice Shuttle CEO Avani Singh believes that seaplanes have the potential to revolutionize travel in India, especially considering the country’s diverse geographical terrains like riverlines, coastlines, and islands. The operations for the new seaplane routes are expected to kick off next year.
The experimental flight for Munnar’s Mattupetty to Bolgatty (Kochi) route is set to take place in a week. The seaplanes that will be used on this route have the capacity to carry up to eight passengers. Those who opt for this service will have the opportunity to enjoy breathtaking aerial views of Munnar from the skies.
The launch event for SpiceJet seaplanes in Vijayawada saw the presence of Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister of Civil Aviation, k Rammohan Naidu, alongside Avani Singh, CEO of Spice Shuttle. This event marked an important milestone in the introduction of seaplane services in various parts of India.
Seaplane services have the potential to provide convenient and efficient transportation options, especially in areas with challenging terrains or limited connectivity. By introducing seaplanes in picturesque locations, SpiceJet aims to not only offer a unique travel experience but also boost tourism and promote exploration of these remote spots.
With the upcoming operations of seaplanes in diverse locations across India, travelers can look forward to a new way of experiencing the beauty of the country from a different perspective. The combination of air and water travel opens up exciting possibilities for adventure seekers, nature enthusiasts, and anyone looking to explore the hidden gems of India’s landscapes.
