Syria Army Targets Militants on Various Fronts: Updates
In a recent development, the Syrian Ministry of Defense has confirmed a strategic military operation targeting militants in various regions of the country. The army, in collaboration with Russian air support, executed a series of coordinated artillery, missile, and aerial strikes in the northern and southern countrysides of Hama. The strikes aimed at dismantling militant vehicles and gatherings, resulting in significant casualties among the militant groups.
Army Operations and Civilian Displacement
According to reports from Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in Syria, the Syrian army targeted a militant convoy near the Hama and Homs regions, initiating intense clashes in the western countryside of Hama. As a result of the escalating conflict, civilians from Hama’s countryside have been forced to flee towards neighboring provinces like Latakia, Tartus, and the western part of Homs. The influx of displaced people has posed challenges to local areas in accommodating the growing population.
In the Homs countryside, militants from various towns launched offensives, while the Syrian army repositioned its forces in the Rabi’a and Masyaf regions. The absence of Syrian army positions in the affected areas has strained the situation, leading to increased tensions between armed groups and local communities.
Humanitarian Crisis and Hostage Situations
Amidst the military operations, reports of humanitarian crises have surfaced, particularly in Aleppo. Residents from Nubl and al-Zahraa recounted harrowing experiences of being held hostage by armed groups in al-Safirah, Aleppo. The militants coerced residents into providing false testimonies to media outlets, concealing the atrocities and abuses they endured while under captivity.
The dire conditions in al-Safirah have left thousands of civilians without access to basic necessities like food, water, and medicine. Disturbing video footage circulated on social media depicted the desperation of the trapped civilians, appealing for urgent assistance from international organizations and humanitarian associations.
Call for International Intervention
As the situation in Aleppo continues to deteriorate, more than 2,000 civilians remain trapped and vulnerable to hunger, thirst, and violence at the hands of armed groups. The destruction of telecommunication systems has further isolated the affected areas, hindering communication and access to critical support services.
The plight of the civilians in Aleppo underscores the urgent need for swift evacuation and humanitarian aid to prevent further loss of life and alleviate the suffering of innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire of conflict. International organizations and allies are urged to intervene promptly to address the escalating crisis and ensure the safety and well-being of the affected population.
