A Venezuelan migrant named Jesus Alberto Pereira Castillo has been accused of sexually assaulting his employer’s 14-year-old daughter in Colorado. He had entered the U.S. illegally in September 2023 and was released by the Border Patrol. Castillo was arrested in Denver following the incident.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office stated that the assault took place in the employer’s residence where Castillo was temporarily staying in the basement. He forced himself on the teenager around 10:30 p.m. and left before the deputies arrived. After weeks of investigation, Castillo was arrested without any issues and was expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
It was reported that Castillo had a previous arrest in May for possessing forgery/counterfeiting tools and larceny. Following the recent assault, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed a detainer on him. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Castillo was taken into custody without any problems.
In addition to this incident, Colorado has been facing an increase in violent crimes and homicides, leading to a $350 million ‘defund police’ comeback. The state is dealing with issues related to gang takeovers and rising crime rates, which has raised concerns among the residents.
The situation has also brought attention to the immigration policies and enforcement under President-elect Donald Trump. There have been discussions about possible mass deportations, which has caused fear and uncertainty among migrant communities. Denver’s mayor, Mike Johnston, even mentioned a potential ‘Tiananmen Square moment’ if such actions are taken by federal immigration officials.
Overall, the case of Jesus Alberto Pereira Castillo highlights the complex issues surrounding immigration, law enforcement, and public safety. It serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing these issues effectively to ensure the well-being and security of all individuals living in the community.
