House Republicans are accusing Hunter Biden of using his father’s position as vice president to avoid further scrutiny in a 2016 SEC investigation involving his business associates. The investigation focused on a tribal bond scheme, with Hunter Biden’s former business partner, Devon Archer, and the entity Rosemont Seneca Bohai being implicated. Hunter Biden was subpoenaed to produce documents related to Rosemont Seneca Bohai, which was directly linked to the scheme.

According to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, Hunter Biden invoked his father’s status as vice president in an attempt to deter the SEC from pursuing further investigation. Despite providing documents to the SEC in response to the subpoena, Hunter Biden’s attorney emphasized the confidentiality of the investigation and mentioned his father’s position to discourage further scrutiny.

While Hunter Biden was not charged in the SEC’s announcement, his business associates Devon Archer and Jason Galanis faced charges related to securities fraud. Galanis was sentenced to 14 years in prison, while Archer received a sentence of a year and a day for defrauding clients in connection with the tribal bond scheme.

As part of the impeachment inquiry, Comer and Jordan are requesting all documents and communications between the SEC and the White House, including those provided by Rosemont Seneca, Archer, and Hunter Biden. They are also seeking justification for seeking documents from Hunter Biden, internal ethics opinions, and the appearance of a former staff attorney for questioning.

In addition, criminal referrals have been sent to the Justice Department recommending charges against Hunter Biden and James Biden for making false statements to Congress about the impeachment inquiry. Allegations include false statements made by Hunter Biden regarding his role as corporate secretary at Rosemont Seneca Bohai, which was used to receive foreign payments.

House Republicans are investigating President Biden’s involvement in his family’s international business dealings, which they claim resulted in millions of dollars for Biden family members and their associates. The inquiry aims to uncover the extent of the Biden family’s influence-peddling activities and financial transactions.
